Every year, Allied releases the Allied Van Lines Magnet States Report, a detailed look at how many moves took place in each state over the last calendar year. The states with the greatest number of net moves—found by subtracting the number of outbound moves from the number of inbound moves—are called the most magnetic. 

For the 2017 year, Allied found the top five most magnetic states to be:

  1. Florida – 1,740 net moves
  2. Arizona – 1,659 net moves
  3. North Carolina – 1,200 net moves
  4. South Carolina – 715 net moves
  5. Texas – 595 net moves

Allied Van Lines Vice President and General Manager Lesli Bertoli explains that Florida and Arizona frequently top this list, thanks largely to their popularity among retirees.
