At Simonik Transportation & Warehousing, we believe that our responsibility to our community lies beyond providing reliable, superior-quality relocation and storage services for our customers. We also believe in doing all that we can to adopt a charitable role in the community, to help others in need and to make New Jersey a better place to live.
That’s why we’re proud of our involvement as an agent of Allied Van Lines’ family of moving companies and our joint efforts to sponsor a child through the world-renowned Make-a-Wish Foundation this year. Take a look at what our NJ movers were able to help the foundation achieve thanks to the work of the charity’s amazing volunteers and through our sponsorship as an affiliate of Allied Van Lines.
What is the Make-a-Wish Foundation?
The Make-a-Wish Foundation is a charity organization that arranges amazing experiences for children with critical illnesses. Its goal is to change the lives of the children it serves, by making an effort to grant the wishes of every eligible child it can. Some typical wishes granted are a visit to a theme park, a meet and greet with a favorite celebrity, a day spent with a real firefighter or a police officer, or the donation of a special gift—although the sky’s the limit when it comes to requests, and wishes come straight from the imaginations of the children that the organization serves.
Eligible children are between 2.5 and 18 years old and have been diagnosed with a critical illness that is progressive, degenerative, or malignant in nature. More than 15,300 wishes were granted in the United States in 2018, which represented only half of the foundation’s requests from eligible children across the country. Anyone can nominate a child using the form on the Make-a-Wish foundation’s website, and anyone can donate to the cause using the same website for details on becoming a sponsor.
Joel’s Disney Dream: Made Possible in Part by Allied Van Lines’ Family of MoversSimonik Transportation & Warehousing and Allied Van Lines were thrilled to receive news that a wish was granted as a result of our NJ movers’ contributions to the foundation. According to the Make-a-Wish Foundation, the sponsorship that we supported, along with the rest of Allied Van Lines’ affiliated moving companies, went towards helping a 10-year old cancer patient named Joel embark on an unforgettable Disney cruise vacation aboard the Disney Dream.
After three years of chemotherapy treatments and a lifetime of hospital visits, Joel was ecstatic to experience a carefree vacation aboard the giant ship—trying out new foods, exploring the kid’s club activities and scavenger hunts, sliding down waterslides and generally having fun just being a kid. The cruise adventure also included stops at the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas and Disney’s Castaway Cay—the company’s very own private island.
