Everyone has had to pack and move to a new residence, and we all know how stressful that can be. It is extremely time consuming and is just a giant headache. One thing that people overlook is the amount of personal belonging that they own. Nothing like moving to make you want to give up all your possessions. This is where storage comes into the picture, if you have things that you aren’t sure if you want to depart with or just not sure if they will fit in your new home, you can always put them in storage.

Storage Options Available to You

Almost all major moving companies offer storage options at very reasonable prices. Some even offering a multitude of options depending on your needs. Pricing will very depending on your choices, self-storage will most likely be cheaper that full service, but no matter what you choose your possessions will be protected from the elements.

Self-Storage Options

As the name implies this option you handle all of the loading and unloading. When selecting a self-storage option don’t just pick the first one you see. Look at different variables that can help with your decision, just because it is the closest option doesn’t make it the best choice. One small tip is storage facilities in larger metropolitan areas tend to be more expensive than their rural counterparts. Also look to see if there is any security measurements in place, be it cameras or actual on site personnel. The self-storage option is usually the cheapest route when storing your things.

Full-Service Storage

For anyone that absolutely hates packing and moving or just doesn’t have the time to do it themselves there is also the full-service option. This is usually an added service that moving companies offer for an extra fee. They will gladly pack up everything you wish to store and transport it to their facilities, where they will then unload it and store it for you. All you need to do is to create a list or walk the movers through what they will be taking, and that’s all you have to do.

This option is a relatively new option compared to the other two. This option a storage facility will send a pod to your residence then when you have filled it they will return and take it back to their place of business. Compared to the other two options this tends to be the more expensive of the options, and the pods are not that spacious so it could take more than one. This will unfortunately make the overall price go up, the more pods you use the more expensive it gets.

Pricing and Expenses

There are a number of factors that will determine the overall price to a storage unit. Size, location, quality of the site are just a few variables. The smaller a unit is the cheaper it will be, and the more spacious the higher the price tag and so on and so forth. The best thing to do is to call around and compare prices in your area.

Moving Company Options

Not every moving company offers storage services, but if they do they give you a couple of options based on your needs. These two options are short term and long term, and this sounds exactly like it is. Short term is when you just need to stash your things for a few days, and long term is used for a longer amount of time perhaps indefinitely. Usually with the long-term route it’s for stuff you don’t use very often but still need i.e. holiday decorations.
